Luis Aparicio
Shortstop.  Chicago White Sox, 1956-62, 1968-70.
Batted:  right.  Threw:  right.
Born:  4/29/34, Maracaibo, Venezuela.


  • American League Rookie of the Year in 1956.
  • Won nine Gold Glove awards, still the record amongst A.L. shortstops.
  • Chosen to major league baseball's all-star game ten times.
  • Led the league in stolen bases his first nine seasons.
  • Runner-up to Nellie Fox in the 1959 American League M.V.P. voting.
  • Batted .308 in the 1959 World Series.
  • First amongst all shortstops for assists (8,016) and double-plays (1,553).  Ranks third amongst shortstops for fielding chances (12,930).
  • Batted .313 for the Sox in 1970.
  • Along with Nellie Fox, one-half of the one of the slickest fielding keystone combos ever created, his basestealing heroics always preceded by Sox fans' chants, "Go! Go! Go!", a legend amongst Sox fans who will always remember him as "Little Louie".
  • Inducted into Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1984.
  • White Sox retired Luis' #11 in 1984.

    Chosen by Sox fans as the greatest hall of fame shortstop.
