Outfielder.  Chicago White Sox, 1954-64.
Batted:  right.  Threw:  right.
Born:  3/9/34, Fresno, California.


  • Four-time center field gold glove winner (1961, 1962, 1963, 1964).
  • His career .989 fielding average is eighth highest all time amongst major league outfielders, tied with Sox outfielder Ken Berry.
  • Scored three times in Game One of the the 1959 World Series, a Sox post season record.  Also hit .292 in the '59 Series.
  • Received 66 votes for 1959 A.L. Most Valuable Player award, won by teammate Nellie Fox.
  • Selected to the 1962 American League all-star team.
  • 1,035 career games in Sox outfield is third highest in franchise history.
  • A fan favorite for his innumerable over the fence catches stolen from Comiskey's centerfield bullpen.

    First player chosen for hall of fame induction by Sox fans from the 1950's era.
