Outfielder.  Chicago White Sox, 1975-1981.
Batted:  right.  Threw:  right.
Born:  2/12/55, Jackson, Mississippi.


  • American League all-star, 1978, 1979.
  • Batted .300 for the Sox three times in seven seasons.
  • Led '79 Sox in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in.
  • Set record for chances by an outfielder (524) and putouts (512) in 1977.
  • Former #1 pick by Oakland in 1972, acquired by Sox  in 1975 for Stan Bahnsen and Skip Pitlock
  • Traded to Detroit for Steve Kemp in 1981.
  • The regular centerfielder in Detroit's line up for another eight seasons, including their 1984 championship season.
  • Batted .294 for the Tigers in the 1984 World Series.

Chosen by Sox fans as the greatest hall of fame outfielder from the post-1960 era.
