Pitcher.  Chicago White Sox, 1923-1946.
Batted:  both.  Threw:  right.
Born:  12/28/00, Lake Charles, Louisana.  Died:  7/25/86.


  • 260 career wins with the White Sox.
  • Led the American League in victories in 1925 and 1927.
  • Started and finished all 20 games in his 1942 assignments.
  • League-best earned run average (2.10) in 1942.
  • Pitched no-hitter vs. Boston on August 21, 1926.
  • Pitched 21-inning game on May 24, 1929.
  • Voted the greatest right-handed pitcher in White Sox history in fans' poll conducted in 1969.
  • Fondly remembered for his "Sundays Only" work later in his career.
  • His jersey #16 retired by White Sox in 1987.

Chosen by Sox fans as the greatest hall of fame pitcher from the pre-1950 era.
