Born:  4/2/27, Detroit, Michigan.


  • 211 career wins, 186 with the White Sox.
  • 38 career shutouts, 35 with the White Sox.
  • 20-game winner in 1956 and 1957.
  • American League starting pitcher for 1953, 1955, and 1956 all-star games.
  • League-best earned run average (1.97) in 1955.
  • Pitched four one-hit games.
  • Pitched 39-2/3rds consecutive scoreless innings in August, 1953.
  • Nearly always drew assignment against the league's best pitchers including Bob Lemon of Cleveland (7-2 career record) and Whitey Ford of the Yankees (8-6 career record).
  • White Sox retired Pierce's #19 jersey number in 1987.

Chosen by Sox fans' as the greatest hall of fame pitcher from the post-1950 era.
