Another White Sox winner!
(June 12)
Short Take: Four games from
breakeven!
What price is David Wells worth now? After shutting down the
Cincinnati Reds for seven innings, leading the Sox to a 5-0 victory, our Pale
Hose find themselves just four games beneath .500 and making fast moves
towards the breakeven point.
The price can only go up as the Sox's record improves. Isn't winning
fabulous, Sox Fans!
Boomer was simply awesome, pitching quickly and effectively. He made
the most of six strikeouts and a key double-play to end a sixth inning rally
by the hapless Reds. It was the only inning the Sox ace gave up more
than one hit.
While Wells sawed through Cincinnati's line up, Sox hitters were playing
long ball with the Reds. Paul Konerko and Magglio Ordonez accounted
for all five Sox runs on 2-run and 3-run dingers respectively. The
one by Ordonez was especially a backbreaker, coming immediately after Wells
snuffed out the Reds' sixth inning rally.
Even more good news, Sox Fans! Sean Lowe relieved Wells and
was only great in two innings relief. His ERA sits at a stellar
2.22. Not bad for a guy who got demoted to Charlotte earlier this
year. What the hell was that all about?
More good news? How about another Tribe loss. Let's put those
dreams on hold and reach the immediate goal: the .500 mark. It all
starts with beating Cincinnati again tomorrow.
Finally, consider this: the Reds out-hit the Sox 9 to 7--yet they
were shutout 5-0. That's some damned good baseball our Sox are playing!
Just win, baby!
