Buehrle Brilliant!
(June 13)
Short Take: Just three from .500!
Enough of the Cub-like personal statistics obsession. Mark Buehrle's
24.2 consecutive inning shutout streak ended in the first inning against
Cincinnati. While we're sure he could have ended up doing endorsements
for fast-food restaurants and video games ("It's soooo real!"), it's
this sort of crap no Sox Fans ultimately cares about.
The Sox won 4-2 and Mark Buehrle won his fifth game. Those are
the statistics we like! Onward and upward, Sox Fans, we're just three
beneath .500 now.
Buerhle gave up the long ball with his very first batter. So belying
his 22 years of age, he simply shutdown the Reds for the next five innings
until they finally touched him for another run, this time unearned on a
fielding error.
The Reds never knew what hit them. Ray Durham led off the game
for the Sox in the first inning and went yard to tie the game. One
batter latter Carlos Lee lit the Comiskey scoreboard too, for a 2-1 Sox
lead. Jeff Liefer didn't hit a solo dinger, but Sox Fans love rbi
singles just as well and the score was 3-1 before Cincinnati got their next
at-bats.
Playing in Chicago, do you think the Reds noticed the difference between
playing a game at Wrigley Field and this one at Comiskey Park? That
wasn't the Little Sisters of the Poor wearing silver and black! We don't
play in that joke of a division either.
Magglio Ordonez looked marvelous circling the bases with a crushing
blow to dead-center in the third inning and Keith Foulke was his usual
brilliant self in the ninth for his twelfth save.
That's 10 wins in the last 12 games, and 15 of the last 18. Winning
is what it's all about, Sox Fans. The clueless dolts in the media just
don't get it.
Sam-me did the hop tonight, the ball fell short, and the Cubs got their
heads caved in. Guess who made the highlight reel?

hasn't retracted his "overrated phenom" label. Who is
the "overrated idiot", Skip?
