Bald-WIN!!!
(May 8)
Short Take: J.B. da man!
Our Sox have climbed out of the cellar of A.L. Central thanks almost
entirely to James Baldwin's surgically-repaired arm. The Sox win their
third in a row with a hard-earned 2-0 victory over Jarrod Washburn and the
Anaheim Angels.
For seven innings, James Baldwin was the sole bright spot for Sox
Fans to cling to. Fresh from beating the Sox convincingly last week, the
Angels' Jarrod Washburn was calmly mowing down the Sox. They ought to
check the guy for illegal substances the way his high fastball was
popping. Formerly sporting an 11.09 ERA, even Washburn seemed
surprised at his effectiveness.
Next he'll get a job on the Cubs' staff.
Washburn carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning which left only James
Baldwin between the Sox and oblivion. He bent but he never broke,
keeping the game a scoreless tie.
Then came the fateful seventh. After striking out Jose Valentin,
Washburn walked Magglio Ordonez. Visions of Andy Hawkins and his
1990 no-hit loss to our Pale Hose began dancing in Sox Fans' memories! Paul
Konerko squeezed one through the infield for the Sox' first hit, and Carlos
Lee scorched one along the third base line to bring home was proved to be
the deciding run.
Baldwin the Warrior made it hold up. An insurance run off the bat of Ray
Durham came courtesy a delightful dinger in the eighth. Suddenly our
Sox are hanging tough and scoring runs late in the game.
Gotta love that, Sox Fans.
Same two teams Wednesday evening at Comiskey.
