Today Kirk Gibson-former outfielder/manager/psycho/whacko/nutjob-offered his thoughts on the death of Sparky Anderson, the manager for whom he played in Detroit. They were both a part of the 1984 Tigers team that went wire-to-wire in winning the World Series that year. He....
Ricky the whiny sportswriter here. I interrupt this obit to whine once again. You mentioned 1984. That was the year my Cubbies lost 3 games to 2 to the Padres. If they had won Game 5, there never would have been a wire-to-wire Tigers team, because my Cubbies would have wiped them out in the World Series. And the Cubbies drought that year was 76 years, as compared to 16 for Detroit, and 15 for San Diego. They are mere wimps. Why God??? Why???? Why are you doing this to me????? Do you hate me??????? If I flagellate myself like Martin Luther, will that be good enough for you, you insensitive, unfeeling......GOD????!!!!!!!!!
Ahem. Sorry. Rick has been shot full of lithium and carted away. Now for Kirk. he had this to say about Anderson's death:
"Sparky Anderson lives on inside of me, more that any other person..." So Kirk says Sparky lives on inside of him, eh? Well, the sportswriters had to heavily edit that quote. What Kirk really said was:
"Sparky Anderson lives on inside of me!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!! He has taken possession of me!!! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!! Just like Pazzuzu and Mean Joe and Big Bertha and all the other voices inside my head!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!"
