In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Still, Knight fans turned out in droves. The team hit the 2 million mark for the 4th time in the past five seasons. Several times the Superdome was packed to the rafters, with fans making so much noise it seemed to threaten to blow the roof off of the joint.

The final weekend series saw the Knights with a record of 94-65 going into the three game set with the Dodgers. L.A. was sitting in second at 92-67, two games off the pace. Knight fans’ cuticles were chewed down to the core as they nervously prepared to watch the games.

“I know they are going to blow it again. They always do” opined one fan.

“They may as well just give the division to Los Angeles. They obviously don’t want it” said another, in reference to a series in Dodger Stadium the week before that LA had swept.

Manager Dan Goodman tried to keep his team calm and collected during the white knuckle days of the pennant race. Even during the most extreme moments, Goodman would simply stand in the dugout, wearing his ever-present jacket and staring out onto the field.

“I have to set the example” he said. “What would my players think of me if I stood there yelling like a nut? I’ve got to be the calmest guy there. If I’m not, they’re not going to be either.”

First baseman David Lee felt the anxiety, too, only he was not just your typical athlete dedicated to winning. Not only was he the star of the team, but he was a rookie first baseman in 1982 AND he was born in New Orleans, raised in the bayou, and had passionately rooted for them as a youth.

“It was my dream since I was a kid to play for the Knights and make it to the World Series with them. It was a dream come true when I got to play for them, now I want to take it further and get to the Series. I know how the fans feel. I feel that way myself. I did when I was a kid. You just have to ask them to trust us.”
