Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Posted 03-17-2012 at 07:09 AM by October26

To celebrate spring and in honor of St. Patrick's Day, I'm posting a garden blog entry. I realize spring doesn’t officially begin until next Tuesday, March 20th. However, here in Chicago, it feels like we skipped spring and jumped right into summer. We are having the most peculiar weather in Chicago this spring and as a gardener, I am feeling quite challenged. Last fall, my husband and I planted spring bulbs - daffodils/buttercups & tulips – for our anniversary (October 26). I can't believe the daffodils/buttercups are already blooming! Below are pictures of one of the flower beds on the side of our house. The photo on the left was taken on 3.13.12 & the one on the right was taken on 3.16.12. We usually have crocuses popping up out of the ground in February, but this is the earliest we have ever had these bulbs blooming in our garden. I believe the early bloom can be attributed to a mild winter and the unusually warm weather we’ve had this past week. I plan to enjoy the flowers and the warm temperatures for as long as they last. Have a great day and:
