In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

June 14,1975
vs. New York Yankees
at Shea Stadium

By mid-June Deron Johnson wasn't making anybody forget about Dick Allen. The 36 year old veteran had a batting average hovering around the .220 mark. He did have a few moments, though. He delivered game-breaking or winning hits a couple of times. Not that it helped the team much. They were 24-33, 9 1/2 games back and resting in last place in the AL West. Attendance was also back to pre-Dick Allen levels as well.

Wilbur Wood took the mound against the Yankees. Woodie was contributing to the team's last place standing with a 3-10 record and an ERA above 5. His opponent for the game was Doc Medich.

The Yankees opened the scoring in the 2nd. Walt Williams and Alex Johnson singled. Bobby Bonds moved Williams over with a sacrifice fly and Rick Dempsey drove him home with a single.

Deron struck back in the top of the 4th, taking Medich deep for a solo home run that landed in the Sox bullpen. They scored again in the 6th when Jorge Orta singled home Brian Downing, then ended up on 3rd one batter later when Sandy Alomar botched Carlos May's ground ball. Johnson came up and delivered again, this time a sacrifice fly to score Orta.

Orta and Johnson teamed up again in the 7th. With Bucky Dent and Pat Kelly on, Orta singled to score Dent. One out later Johnson struck again, taking reliever Larry Gura deep for a three run home run and a 7-1 lead.

Wilbur gave up one more run, a home run by Craig Nettles to lead off the 9th. He allowed one more baserunner but got through the inning, inducing ex-teammate Walt Williams to fly out to Tony Muser to end the game.
