Games and Moments
September 24, 1967
vs. Cleveland Indians
at Cleveland Municipal Stadium

"All year long, the critics have discounted the guts of this team" manager Eddie Stanky said at one point during the great 1967 pennant chase. He was right. The team had bounced back from two seeming knockout punches-the stunning 7-3 loss to Detroit, then a three game losing streak that knocked them 3 games back with 16 left to play.

Next came a three game...

Games and Moments September 13 & 14, 1967

Games and Moments:
September 13 & 14, 1967
vs. Cleveland Indians
at White Sox Park

A September 10 headline in the Sun-Times announced that the Sox were all but dead, about to fall out of the race.

The Sox responded to this by posting a doubleheader shutout that day, highlighted by Joel Horlen's now classic no-hitter. And then...they dropped three straight to fall three games back, in 4th place. That's where they were when they took the field on the...

Games and Moments
September 9, 1967
vs. Detroit Tigers
at White Sox Park

Yee-owwwwch. This one hurt. This one was epic. This was potentially crushing.

The Sox fall out of 1st on 9/7 when they are idle and both the Twins and Red Sox win that day.

The next day, the Tigers roll to town and keep the Sox down with a win. On Saturday the 9th the two teams meet in a nationally televised NBC Game of the Week.

The Sox score three runs...

Games and Moments September 6, 1967

Games and Moments
September 6, 1967
vs. California Angels
at White Sox Park

The White Sox appear to be falling out of the race as September begins. They are 1.5 games back but in 4th place. A 10-2 whomping at the hands of the Red Sox makes it 2.5, but Stanky's boys soldier on, winning 4 of 5 to creep within a game as they meet the Angels on this date.

Once again, the starting pitcher-in this case Joel Horlen-had to be protesting "What's a guy gotta...

Games and Moments August 27, 1967, Part II

Posted 02-18-2017 at 01:10 PM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

August 27, 1967 Part II-Not everybody was happy with Springstead's call on the play that ended Game 1 of the double header. Both Ken Berry and Eddie Stanky vigorously argued the call, with Stanky bumping the ump a few times before the argument was done. Springstead couldn't eject either guy, though, as the game was over.

They weren't the only duo in the park mad enough to confront the ump. During the second game two fans ran out to Springstead, now at third base, and exchanged angry...
