April 24,1973
vs. New York Yankees
at Yankee Stadium

The Sox follow up their split with the A's by getting pounded in three straight by the Royals, twice by scores of 12-5. The good news is that in the second 12-5 whomping Bill Melton hit his 1st home run since coming back from his crippling back injury. Tanner was quoted as saying that it was important that Bill "get that first one."

The bad news is that it dropped the team to 2-4 and ballooned...

Games and Moments

May 12, 1971
vs. Washington Senators
at White Sox Park

Newbies shine on the Sox stage during this night's twi-night twinbill vs. the Senators, making new personnel director Roland Hemond look like a trading genius.

Game 1 sees Hemond acquisition Tom Bradley, he of the thin frame and Woody Allen glasses, fire major league heat at the Senators. Bradley scatters five hits and whiffs five in tossing his second complete...

April 7, 1970
vs. Minnesota Twins
at White Sox Park

Opening Day. Those two words sound like music to a baseball fan's ears. They roll off the tongue so sweetly, like honey. O-PEN-ING DAY. The sign that spring is here, summer is coming, baseball is back for another year and all is right with the world.

White Sox fans going into the 1970 season didn't really feel all that optimistic. The team was pretty much the same as the previous year's, sans stars like Gary...

May 24,1969
vs. Boston Red Sox
at White Sox Park

At this point in the season the Sox look like an improved team offensively-the team average is at .235 (compared to .211 for 1968) led by Carlos May's .306 average. Walt Williams is also over .300. The team is actually one home run off the pace from the previous year-22 at this point (vs. 23 in 1968). 14 of those home runs belong to Carlos May (10) and Bill Melton (4), the rookie 1-2 punch that was fast becoming the south...

April 26, 1968
vs. Minnesota Twins
at Metropolitan Stadium

The Sox enter the game 0-10, the worst start in their history. This, coupled with losses in their last five games in 1967, made for a 15 game losing streak.

The Sox end their frustration on this day with a 3-2 win over the Twins. Tommie Davis belts his first home run of the year. Tommy John goes 5.2 innings for the win, Wilbur Wood goes the last two for the save.
