This was the notorious game in which Eddie Stanky, in an effort to shake up his offense, inserted starting pitcher Gary Peters in the number 6 slot...

vs. California Angels
at County Stadium, Milwaukee

Sox take the field this night against the Angels in the first of nine games that they would play in Milwaukee this season. Tommy John takes the mound and goes seven innings, giving up one run. He exits with the game tied.

The Angels score twice in the 8th off reliever and loser Bob Locker. Tommy McCraw hits his 2nd home run of the season.

vs. New York Yankees
at White Sox Park

Sox enter the first game of this Sunday double header at 4-13, having ended their season-opening 10 game losing streak 9 days earlier.

Gary Peters, 0-3 going into the game, goes the distance in this one and gives up 1 run and six hits while striking out 9 as the Sox win 5-1. Miffed, perhaps, at his record and lack of run support, Peters himself provides the margin of victory by hitting a grand slam off starter...

May 4, 1968
vs. New York Yankees
at White Sox Park

This game was played in a snappy 2:04 in front of a crowd of 3,872. Cisco Carlos, still looking like the answer to the Sox' problems with the fourth spot in the rotation, pitched 8 innings and gave up only one hit. Bob Locker pitched the 9th as the Sox beat the Yankees 4-1.

Also of note in this game-the White Sox' starting 3rd baseman is 22 year old Bill Melton, making his major league debut. Melton goes 1 for...

May 1, 1968
vs. Washington Senators
at White Sox Park

The Sox take the field in front of 5,430. With their horrible season opening 10 game losing streak mercifully behind them, they go about trying to pick up the pieces of their already shattered season.

Tommy John, the guy who ended the streak vs. the Twins 5 days earlier, takes the mound and delivers one of the best games of his career. John pitches 8.2 innings of shutout ball before giving up a run with two...
