In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Alternate World Series

Posted 11-02-2010 at 07:19 PM by TommyJohn

Headline from a 1946 edition of the "Onion" in the book "Our Dumb Century:"

Nazis, Japs victorious in alternate Phillip Dick Universe

Pretty funny stuff, and now that baseball is over, I will be pretty bored and looking for things to do. One thing I got around to thinking about was MLB's League Championship Series. Some of those series have sometimes been far more compelling and memorable than the World Series itself. I vividly remember moments like Dave Henderson's home run in 1986, the Mets and Astros playing an epic 16 inning thriller the same year (which has to go down as one of the greatest games ever played), the annual Yankee-Royal wars. And who can possibly forget those epic Yankee-Red Sox blood feuds of 2003-04, ones that defined America and told us much about who we are as a people? If teams from Kansas City and Detroit hooked up in them, ESPN would've long forgotten about them, but it was Yanks and Bosox, so they were the greatest struggles in the history of mankind.

What am I rambling on about? I just thought of the losers of the LCS-and how the World Series matchup might have looked and played out had the other teams won. SO without further ado, I present "Alternate World Series"-what the World Series match up would have been had the other teams been victorious. Maybe somewhere in an alternate Phillip K. Dick universe they were:

Minnesota Twins vs. Atlanta Braves
Minnesota Twins vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Oakland A's vs. San Francisco Giants
Detroit Tigers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Baltimore Orioles vs. Cincinnati Reds
Baltimore Orioles vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Oakland A's vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Kansas City Royals vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Kansas City Royals vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Kansas City Royals vs. Philadelphia Phillies
California Angels vs. Cincinnati Reds
New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros
Oakland A's vs. Montreal Expos
California Angels vs. Atlanta Braves
Chicago White Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago Cubs
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
California Angels vs. Houston Astros
Detroit Tigers vs. San Francisco Giants
Boston Red Sox vs. New York Mets
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago Cubs
Boston Red Sox vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Oakland A's vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Chicago White Sox vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Baseball Commish Jerry Reinsdorf canceled Series
Seattle Mariners vs. Cincinnati Reds
Baltimore Orioles vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Baltimore Orioles vs. Atlanta Braves
Cleveland Indians vs. Atlanta Braves
Boston Red Sox vs. New York Mets
Seattle Mariners vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Seattle Mariners vs. Atlanta Braves
Minnesota Twins vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago Cubs
New York Yankees vs. Houston Astors
Los Angeles Angels vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Oakland A's vs. New York Mets
Cleveland Indians vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles Angels vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
New York Yankees vs. Philadelphia Phillies

One note: I am so glad that the 2003 "alternate series" never happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine the media hype if it had?????????????? Good lord almighty in heaven and earth and all spaces in between.
