April 24,1973
vs. New York Yankees
at Yankee Stadium

The Sox follow up their split with the A's by getting pounded in three straight by the Royals, twice by scores of 12-5. The good news is that in the second 12-5 whomping Bill Melton hit his 1st home run since coming back from his crippling back injury. Tanner was quoted as saying that it was important that Bill "get that first one."

The bad news is that it dropped the team to 2-4 and ballooned...

Games and Moments

May 12, 1971
vs. Washington Senators
at White Sox Park

Newbies shine on the Sox stage during this night's twi-night twinbill vs. the Senators, making new personnel director Roland Hemond look like a trading genius.

Game 1 sees Hemond acquisition Tom Bradley, he of the thin frame and Woody Allen glasses, fire major league heat at the Senators. Bradley scatters five hits and whiffs five in tossing his second complete...

Way back in the olden days of 2003, I created a WSI habitue known as the Sneering Chicago Sports Media Ass. The SCSMA would show up from time to time to sneer at White Sox fans about how lousy, horrible and unloved their team was, as compared to the great franchise up north that hadn't won anything in going on 95 years.

Updated 08-04-2012 at 11:08 AM by TommyJohn

I was listening to Dan McNeil on the radio the other day and he was listing players who played for both the Cubs and White Sox. I was only half interested because he went on about how the list contains about 200 or so names. Yes, it does. So it got me tp thinking about creative lists of Cubs-Sox players, the guys on the list who have a unique distinction about their careers. So I decided to list players for the Cubs and White Sox who belong to some special sub group.

The following...

A new curse! How cute!

Posted 10-29-2011 at 10:21 AM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

As posted in Talking Baseball:

Let's invent a curse! Texas hasn't won in 50 years and they were one strike away twice-will we now see poems, plays, and literary lights moaning and groaning about how woeful and awful and cursed they are, and how there is something glorious and noble in their suffering?

The Curse of JFK-As we know, President Kennedy threw out the first ball before the first game in Senators/Rangers history. He was gunned down on a Dallas street two years...
