In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Games and Moments
April 16, 1969
vs. Kansas City Royals
at White Sox Park

Owner Arthur Allyn and GM Ed Short took a good long look at the White Sox' incredible shrinking offensive numbers with a growing sense of alarm. The 1966 Sox had hit 87 home runs and sported .231 team batting average. 1967 was not much better, with 89 home runs and a .225 average.

Ed Short thought he had the answer in the winter trades that brought over Tommy Davis, Luis Aparicio...

Games and Moments
April 9, 1969
vs. Oakland A's
at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

The Sox take the field for the second game of the 1969 season after having lost 5-2 on Opening Day.

Tommy John takes the mound for his first start since issuing the fateful base on balls to Dick McAuliffe the previous August. John had sustained a torn ligament in the brawl, but refused to undergo surgery for it, perhaps fearing that further damage might be done.

Games and Moments

September 29, 1968
vs. California Angels
at Anaheim Stadium

The psychotic 1968 season mercifully draws to a close on this autumn Sunday.

They manage to end it with a bit of flair. The Sox trail 5-4 going into the top of the 9th. After Dick Kenworthy flies out to open the frame, three straight singles by Buddy Bradford, rookie Carlos May (a September call up who had debuted on the 6th) and veteran Leon Wagner tie the score. Gerry...

Games and Moments September 2 & 3, 1968

Games and Moments
September 2 & 3, 1968
vs. Washington Senators
at. D.C. Stadium

At first glance, these two games with the Senators, both of which the Sox lost. seem like garden variety 1968 games. In the first one, they were blown out 11-3. In the second, Cisco Carlos did not get any run support in a 2-1 loss.

What made these losses big was that they were the team's 81st and 82nd losses of the season, thus ensuring that they would finish below .500...

Games and Moments August 22, 1968

Games and Moments
August 22, 1968
vs. Detroit Tigers
at Briggs Stadium

Tommy John was a bright spot for the White Sox during the dark turmoil of the 1968 season. The left hander, in his fourth season with the team, was having his best year by far. He jumped out of the gate by winning 7 straight without a loss, (including snapping the team's season-opening 10 game losing streak) and kept his ERA down below 2.0 for much of the season.

His 7-0 record and...
