In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Excerpt from SOX! A Fan's Memoir by Dick Dopey (Diamond Communications, South Bend, IN. 2006)

My entire neighborhood was abuzz with excitement that weekend when the White Sox tied the Yankees, which would mean a one game playoff for the pennant. I was the envy of every kid on my block when I announced that my mom had scored three tickets for the game, and I would be playing hooky from school in order to attend the game with my mother and four year old brother. Even then, I was superior...

APBA anecdote

Posted 07-03-2009 at 11:45 AM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

Excerpt from Yog: The Wit and Wisdom of Baseball's Master Zen Philosopher by Maury Honig (Doubleday Books New York, 1985)

Another example of Yog's inscrutible wisdom came in October, 1964. The Yankees had tied the White Sox for the pennant and made their way to Chicago for the one-game playoff.

Berra sought out Whitey Ford, who had gone out partying on Rush Street the night before with Mickey Mantle. He found Ford holding his head between his knees, moaning piteously....

Sox, Yanks to meet for AL Pennant

Chicago Sun-Times
October 5, 1964

Chicago (AP) The White Sox 10 game season-ending winning streak has carried them to a season-ending tie with the New York Yankees, both teams ending their 1964 campaign deadlocked at 99-63. A coin toss has determined Comiskey Park to be the site of the playoff. The odds favor the Yanks, as manager Yogi Berra's boys have gone 12-6 this season vs. Al Lopez's crew. The game will take place at 1:30...

Coming soon...Elseworlds

Posted 06-29-2009 at 11:48 PM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

I have decided to have some fun with my APBA jones and have APBA "Elseworlds." The concept is similar to DC Comics' Elseworlds, only with several batmen instead of just one.

This previous scenario was a matchup between the Sox and Cubs and how it may have played out had Interleague Play begun in 1969; with APBA supplying the plays and results. Any similarities between the characters in the story and real people is a damn shame.

Cubs, Sox down to wire in finale

Chicago-June, 1969

By Joe Dick
Trib Reporter

The Cubs and White Sox met in the South Side ballyard for one more go-round before being forced by their respective schedules to cease hostilities and carry on with the rest of their seasons. The two teams sent off their fans with the kind of thriller that most of them had hoped for when they plunked down their hard-earned two bucks and change for the best seats in the house....
