In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

It's the All-Time "My Special Pain is Greater Than Yours" Series, starring two teams who inflicted heartbreak on both sides of town, the 1964 White Sox and the 1969 Cubs.

This series will have it all-the speedy hustle of Don Buford, timely hitting of Floyd Robinson, home run heroics of Ernie Banks and Billy Williams, pitching galore from Gary Peters, Joel Horlen, Hoyt Wilhelm, Fergie Jenkins and Kenny Holtzman. This mythical World Series between two of Chicago's "What...

The day of the first games of the All-Time White Sox series dawned bright, crisp and clear. There was an unmistakable buzz in the air, the kind that comes in October when postseason baseball comes to town. Four White Sox teams would meet in these semi-final best-of-seven series to determine which of them would earn the right to call itself the "Greatest White Sox team of All-Time." White Sox fans across ages and generations eagerly anticipated the games, many of which would see old Comiskey...

Greatest White Sox Team of All Time simulation tournament-Round 1

I have been wanting to get back to my sim tourney, but haven't, I guess because I don't want to get bogged down in minutia. It is one thing to have these "games" it is quite another to actually sit down, analyze them, study them, and offer commentary. So for this first round (which I played in April) I'll merely post the results.

Round 1: 1983 (99-63) vs. 1993 (94-68)

The 1983 "Winning Ugly" White Sox, one of the most fondly remembered teams in franchise...

Chicago sports

Posted 05-28-2009 at 11:24 AM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

I'll put this here instead of a thread.

I find myself disliking Chicago sports, except for the White Sox. Seriously. I don't follow the Bears anymore. I used to be a huge fan. Now I couldn't care less if their QB is Jake Cutler, Rhett Butler or whoever the hell it will be next year. Big freaking deal. Same with the Bulls. YAWN. I don't care.

Now with the Blackhawks. I just saw a thread saying "thank you for this and that" and blah, blah, blah. I never liked...

Book idea-"The 50 Greatest Games That Did Not Involve the Yankees or Red Sox"

I have had an idea for a while-a book entitled "The 50 Greatest Games that Did Not Involve the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox." This book would take a look at games that are, for the most part, overlooked by the ESPN-driven hype fest for the Yankees and Red Sox. The purpose would be to say enough!-to all the damn hype and the books about baseball's great moments being monopolized by those two teams. I mean, come on. ESPN.com last year had a list of great LCS moments, I think it...
