In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Great to see the Sox recover from that beating yesterday to take one back.

Meanwhile, in APBALand, the 1936 Sox improved to 7-4 by beating the Boston Red Sox 9-6. Ted Lyons was the winner over Lefty Grove in a duel of Hall-of-Famers. The Sox coasted through the first 8.5 innings, jumping out to a 9-2 lead. Mike Kreevich contributed with a bases loaded triple early. In the 9th he followed up a Rip Radcliffe two-run homer with a solo shot.

Things got dicey in the 9th when...

Greatest White Sox team, Part II

So, I sat down to try and measure, statistically, the greatest single-season White Sox team ever. I decided the way to do this was to measure them against the rest of the American League for that particular season. How good were they against the competition? That seemed the fairest way to judge teams across decades, even centuries.

Now, I will admit this system I came up with might be flawed. It is my own system, based on nothing except my idea of how to measure teams. I call this...

Greatest White Sox team of All Time

I am at work and bored silly. I don't do much, but that doesn't mean I will do this all day. I just want to post a few thoughts.

I was reading a book on Yankee myths, legends and such. The dude who wrote it compared the teams considered the 3 greatest in team history-1927, 1961 and 1998 to determine which one was the best of the bunch. He used a bunch of statistics that I don't recall right now, but his conclusion was that it was a toss up. All three dominated in one category or other...

Fan fiction again

I wrote in an earlier entry that my mind is swimming with the possiblities of what to write in this blog. My head is crammed full of 30 years worth of imagination that I never wrote down. I don't know why. Laziness, I guess. Plus a feeling that it wasn't good, or I should be doing other things and not whittling my life away with stupid daydreams. Still, I came up with a lot of stuff-I created my own baseball and football teams, along with a bevy of fictional baseball players that I placed on real...

lineup

I more or less use a set lineup for the games:

Rip Radcliff, LF
Mike Kreevich, CF
Dixie Walker, RF
Zeke Bonura, 1B
Luke Appling, SS
Jackie Hayes, 2B
Jimmie Dykes, 3B
Luke Sewell, C

My pitching rotation isn't exactly a bunch of worldbeaters. In order to keep track of the rotation, I am simply using the starters of the real games, as gleaned from retrosheet. So far it has been mostly John Whitehead and Monty Stratton, who was two...
