In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Games and Moments

June 20,1971
vs. Minnesota Twins
at Metropolitan Stadium

The White Sox at this point of the season are slogging along in last place at 22-38, behind the pace of the 106 loss team of 1970. There are bright spots like the pitching of Wilbur Wood and Tom Bradley. The hitting is also improved, with Bill Melton leading the team with 12 home runs.

The defense still leaves a little to be desired, as the team makes youthful mistakes....

Games and Moments

June 10, 1971
vs. Cleveland Indians
at Cleveland Municipal Stadium

The White Sox have a proud tradition at the shortstop position, starting with Luke Appling, who made his debut in 1930 and held down the position until 1950, en route to the Hall of Fame.

He was succeeded by the fielding wizardry of Chico Carresquel, who held the position until Luis Aparicio arrived in 1956, and made dazzling plays and stole bases during two tenures...

Games and Moments

May 31,1971
vs. Baltimore Orioles
at White Sox Park

The White Sox continue to slog along in last place in the AL West. They can hit the ball, but fielding misadventures abound, led by Bee Bee Richard, who by this time has 15 errors and is being auditioned by Chuck Tanner in centerfield.

This Memorial Day double dip with the Orioles provided plenty of fireworks and entertainment. And there were two games played as well....

Games and Moments

May 12, 1971
vs. Washington Senators
at White Sox Park

Newbies shine on the Sox stage during this night's twi-night twinbill vs. the Senators, making new personnel director Roland Hemond look like a trading genius.

Game 1 sees Hemond acquisition Tom Bradley, he of the thin frame and Woody Allen glasses, fire major league heat at the Senators. Bradley scatters five hits and whiffs five in tossing his second complete...

Games and Moments

May 6,1971
vs. Boston Red Sox
at White Sox Park

"It was our worst game of the year" Chuck Tanner said in summing up this day's effort against the Bosox. He was being too kind. The White Sox committed a whopping six errors and other miscues in getting bombed, 10-1.

The game itself, held on a Thursday afternoon with overcast skies and temperatures in the 40s, was hastily rescheduled after a rainout the day before. Red...
