The Cardinals are simply "solid" and I say that with great respect. They get guys out of the minor league system that produce, they sign good solid free agents who don't do more than they are capable of doing and they have a good front office...not flashy, you won't read a lot of comments from them in the papers...all they do is play the game the right way and win.
As far as Detroit, they have three superstars. Three guys among the highest paid players in the game each of whom can literally carry a team to victory. That's a tough combination to beat. And Scherzer is close to joining that group of three with his ability to dominate.
Dombrowski (who grew up a Sox fan) had built a farm system the envy of baseball in Montreal and showed with a big budget he can win with Florida and Detroit. He's a damn fine G.M. (and to think Hawk fired him because he was a Hemond / Veeck hire...
