All signs also point to the fact that they were hoping to snag Red Sox bench coach Lovullo from Boston but were denied due to their "non poaching" agreement due to the Epstein compensation fiasco. This of course was after they had hoped to get Girardi. It is likely that Renteria was their third or fourth choice but they had to get a manager in place before the GM meetings next week.
