Close, but that oversimplifies it. Ironically, bad hitting is a part of it as well. There is a lot of bad pitching. There is a lot of bad pitching that has more to do with the strike zone being too small than how well the pitcher is capable of pitching. Hitters taking a all or nothing approach, something that used to be vilified in this forum, leads to more home runs among hitters who would be more productive if they focused more on hitting and less on home runs.

It is odd that both home runs and strikeouts are as frequent as they are today, and it's not really helping the game.
