Default What Should Be Done With Ventura?

Ventura's contract is up this season and the Sox aren't discussing a deal with him until the offseason. What would you guys do with him?

Some reports say that the Angels may part ways with Mike Scioscia. Dave Martinez and Sandy Alomar Jr. are both still available. Ryne Sandberg will probably stay with the Phillies now that he has taken over. Also word is that Cal Ripken Jr. is interested in managing. What would be your preference?

Ventura's contract is up after 2014.

He'll finish it, and then he'll be gone.

Robin's contract goes through the end of 2014, but you're right that the real off season question is probably extension or saying good bye.

The status of Scioscia probably makes the answer to this question more pressing. From what I read its just a question of whether he or Dipoto is forced out. It is agreed they can't continue together. For me the only question here is whether there is anything deeper to the Scioscia feud (who's at fault) otherwise the Sox would be fools not sign him.

JR (or anyone else) doesn't have to stones to can him so unless the team is somehow even worse out of the gate next year we have a full season of lame ducking to look forward too.

Only two managers with experience were hired by this ownership and both were on the cheap. Forget Scioscia.

My thinking is it will given to the inside guy and the one thats probably making a lot of decisions anyway. Cooper.

My only trepidation on dumping Ventura is that I wouldn't want to lose our pitching or hitting coach.

Well, they have looked badly managed if bad fundamentals and losing streaks are indicators of bad managing, and they are in my book. But they weren't badly managed last year. I guess his managerial skills regressed from year to year.

Can he preside over a rebuilding? Would someone who's succeeded and worn out his welcome elsewhere want to do a rebuild?

Oh ****, I don't know and neither do you.

Draft a superstar hitter, find a 3Bman worth his salt, get one stud pitcher and let him win. Maybe a thank you letter for enduring a tough season and coaching a team in the same division as the Tigers.

IMO Robin is going to walk away after the season.

It will be interesting to see who the next manager will be.

No more former Sox players, please.

I'd hope Coop will stay, but the rest of the staff should be selected by the new guy. No more old Sox network when it comes to the on-field staff.

I think they'd have to eat $25 million or more on his deal. Their GM's deal is done after 2014. I am guessing money says Scioscia stays.
