Default Beggars Pizza to be sold at Sox games

It's official

CHICAGO WHITE SOX AND BEGGARS PIZZA REACH MULTIYEAR PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT

New Deal Names Beggars Pizza “Pizza Served at U.S. Cellular Field”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, February 20, 2014

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have reached a multiyear partnership agreement with Beggars Pizza to retain the exclusive right of the pizza served at U.S. Cellular Field.

Beggars Pizza will receive prominent brand exposure and product placement at concession stands throughout U.S. Cellular Field. The company also will be tied into a popular video board feature and included in a number of promotional dates each season.

Beggars Pizza has been serving an array of pizzas and Italian food to Chicagoland for over 37 years. Fans can enjoy their pizza at the ballpark starting on Opening Day at U.S. Cellular Field, Monday, March 31 vs. the Minnesota Twins.

“We are thrilled to partner with a family-owned and well-established Chicago brand like Beggars Pizza,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing. “We take great pride in providing fans with the best ballpark experience possible. Adding Beggars to the best ballpark food lineup in baseball is a natural fit."

“It was the lifelong dream of my late brother Peter that Beggars Pizza be served at U.S. Cellular Field,” said Larry Garetto of Beggars. “The Garetto family is so proud to make this dream come true and combine these two Chicago staples, Beggars and the White Sox.”

Really good news IMO. Not the absolute #1 best option (let's not start a debate on what pizza is), but they make a pretty good product plus it's a local business. And it's not a nationwide frozen variety like the last one.

In a perfect world, their gluten-free crust will also be available.

I wouldn't say it's the best, but I'm a big fan of Beggars and grew up on their pizza.

DiGornio's was an awful choice from the beginning. I can honestly say I rarely bought pizza at the park during their stint. Last year, while at a Cubs game I actually commented that the setup they had with D'Agostino's was something I'd like the Sox to have with a local place. Really glad the Sox went this route (even though the setup will be slightly different as Beggars will be essentially sending frozen - but partially cooked - pizzas to the park per my understanding).

Excellent move by the Sox to use a local pizza business to be served at the ballpark. Huge step up from DiGiorno. I'd like to see the Sox do more local partnerships like this for ballpark food. Serve Portillo's Italian Beef, Robinson's Ribs, etc. (Just examples)

+1

Regardless of favorite, I think we can all agree that any pizza that's not sold at your local grocer is a big improvement.

I've never had a good piece of pizza at any sporting event. I can't deceide if it's because it's $9 a piece or it's because the pizza is cold.

I had it at SoxFest, thought it was decent. Little greasy, but much better than what they did have.

I am a fan of the beef at the Cell. The ladies serving it are awesome too. One of the few things I will eat at the ballpark and not be disappointed.

I love pizza, but I can honestly say that I've never had the faintest desire to eat a piece of pizza at a baseball game. That said, nice to see the Sox keepin' it local.

This.

And also what SephClone89 said. However, I'm sure that'd cost around 10 dollars a slice.

Default Help for a video story about Beggars Pizza

Hey, I have mentioned this once or twice before (I think) but I am a grad student at Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism and a colleague of mine is working on a video piece about the White Sox switching over to Beggars Pizza and she is looking to talk to some White Sox fans who go to the game about how they feel about the switch and/or the pizza (food in general) that the White Sox serve at the ballpark. She asked me to see if there would be anyone who is interested in talking to her for that story.

So if you're interested in appearing in this story and are available sometime tomorrow morning, please send me a PM and I can get you in touch with her. The piece would go on our website, Medill Reports and would also air later on CAN-TV.

Here is an example of a print and video piece I did about Paul Konerko: http://news.medill.northwestern.edu/...aspx?id=224624

Thanks!
