![]() This is Davenport, Iowa, whose downtown riverfront is temporarily part of the Mississippi River right now. That is Modern Woodman Park, home of the Quad Cities River Bandits and yes, you can see, they are playing a game against the Peoria Chiefs.

Is that McCovey Cove over the RF wall?

Quad Cities represent!
Great ballpark, especially for a single-A team. |

Modern Woodman is on my list of minor league parks to get to, but the Midwest League has a really, really great collection of ballparks. I loved summer nights at O'Brien Field in Peoria. Pretty much one of the only things I liked about living down there.

Did the players take jon boats into the stadium? There are no fans that I can see.

They've built a flood wall around the stadium to preserve the stadium as it's been damaged a lot because of this flooding.
Unfortunately this type of flooding is happening on a more regular basis and our city is determined to keep the beauty of the river alive and not build any type of flood walls!!!! It is a great park!! |

It's the same standard scaffolding you see at any building site, nothing unsafe about it. They'd have to build the same kind of stuff back in the day when I lived in Peoria and the Illinois River would flood the 1st block of downtown. Also, the water there probably isn't more than 1-2 feet deep, so it's not like you're traverssing raging rapids or a bottomless cavern.

Great photo of an awesome ballpark. Took in many Q-C Angels games in my days there.
I seem to recall a photo that ran in Time magazine from the '93 flood that looked very similar.

COOL! Now I have a new background for my monitor!
Used to go there when I went to college in the QC's. It wasn't pretty then. They have put a lot of work and cash into it. It used to flood nearly every spring. |

I agree. I can't wait to get back and go to a Cornbelters game to see how that is as well. Get to see summer baseball and at a good price. I think I have paid to go to just one Chiefs game over the last 10 I've went to, as people seemingly hand away tickets outside of the stadium.
