This is from the Sox' Facebook page and there was no link, so here it is:
NEWS: The White Sox have agreed to terms with free agent left-handed pitchers Donnie Veal and Jose Quintana. Veal, 27, combined to go 0-2 with a 4.22 ERA (15 ER/32.0 IP) and 31 strikeouts in 19 appearances (five starts) between Class A Bradenton, Class AA Altoona, Class AAA Indianapolis and Rookie Gulf Coast League Pirates in 2011. He did not pitch until May 22 while recovering from Tommy John surgery performed on June 4, 2010. Quintana, 22, spent the entire 2011 season with Class A Tampa in the Yankees farm system, going 10-2 with a 2.91 ERA (33 ER/102.0 IP), one save and 88 strikeouts in 30 appearances (14 starts). He limited opponents to a .236 (86-364) average and was 6-1 with a 2.83 ERA (20 ER/63.2 IP) as a starter.

Wasn't Veal a former Cub farmhand?
Quintana looks solid...let's hope this is the first step to shoring up the farm.

Veal is a Rule 5 player that's bounced around the Cubs and Pirates. Quintana is kind of interesting. Nothing spectacular.. Neither player will be bolstering the farm though.

Veal was also drafted by the White Sox in 2003, although he did not sign. Kenny always gets his guy...eventually.

Indeed. I wouldn't expect much next year as he's coming off TJ, but it never hurts to attempt that reclamation project.

These were not minor league contracts, they both were put on the 40 man roster. Probably to protect in Rule 5.
