NL All Star in 1983 for the Braves, also pitched for the Pirates, Expos, and Yankees in his 11-year-career. Found dead this morning at his home in the Domincan Republic, following an apparent robbery.
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/p...rts-say-110112 His brother, Melido, pitched for the White Sox from 1988-1991.

That is tragic. R.I.P., Pascual.

Wasn't he the brother of former White Sox, Melido?

Yes.
Melido was the Sox's Opening Day starter in 1990. Later that year, on July 12, he threw a rain-shortened, unofficial no-hitter against the Yankees and Andy Hawkins. http://www.baseball-reference.com/bo...99007120.shtml |

Whenever I see Pascual Perez mentioned, I always think about the time he missed a start when he was with the Braves because he got lost on I-285 driving to the ballpark.
The dude was quite a character, and he was probably a better pitcher than his won-loss record indicated.

RIP "Perimeter" Perez.
![]() In addition to that incident (1982, I think) he was also famous/infamous for plunking Alan Wiggins on the first pitch of a 1984 game with the Padres. Padres pitchers tried to retaliate against Perez in his next three at-bats but Perez managed to avoid getting hit until Craig Lefferts finally got him in the 8th. Three bench-clearing brawls later, there were something like 20 ejections, a dozen suspensions, and several fans arrested. Bob Horner, who was on the DL with a broken wrist, even got dressed and came down to the dugout for some action. He stopped Champ Summers from coming into the dugout to go after Perez (with the help of a couple of fans). Crazy ****ing game. http://www.walkoffwalk.com/2009/08/b...-was-this.html And FWIW, in the early 1980s the signage on the Atlanta interstates was pretty lousy. Even today, with all the crazy lane assignments and the other three interstates bisecting I-285, it's easy to miss your exit and get lost if you don't know exactly where you're going. Even if you managed to get onto the Connector (I-75/85) and could see the stadium, back then if your didn't know where you were going once you exited, you could quickly find yourself in one of several surrounding undesirable neighborhoods.

From what I heard, the reason he got lost on the way to the park that day was because he was drunk as a skunk.

As Vinny mentioned. A few years back it wasn't difficult to miss an exit or two on I-285 around Atlanta. Several times I discovered I was back at the airport instead of heading to Blairsville. Again. IIRC, PP had his Braves jacket labelled "I-285". Retired MLB players are probably prime targets when they live in their home countries after their playing days are over.
