It's when people expect him to become a Cy Young candidate because of his stuff that is tiring. I've accepted him as Gavin Floyd. A decent pitcher with flashes of greatness.

I frequently get pissed at Floyd when I watch him pitch, yet at the same time I'm pleased his option was exercised. That seems like a contradiction, but you said it correctly with the statement bolded above.

Gavin is one of the strangest .500 pitchers I've seen over the years. He's a complete enigma. He'll have five or six starts in a row where he's just a monster, completely unhittable for even top offensive clubs. Then, he'll have five or six starts in a row where he throws batting practice.

But, at the end of the day, when you look at the production and you look at the salary, he's good value as a back-of-the-rotation starter. We all just have to learn to live with the fact that he is who he is.
