If he plays 135 games, he'll put up a good line and will sell merchandise.
I really don't know if I would do that. Even so, the point may be moot I guess others (Baltimore? Washington?) would offer a long deal.

Totally agree. 3/75 is perfectly fair for a top 5 hitter in MLB.

He's not going to take a three year deal.

I would throw out four years at the most. Nobody is going to give him 7.

I expect someone to offer him 6. He's easily the top free agent in a weak offseason, and with the new national TV deal (and many lucrative local ones, as well), many teams are flush with cash to spend. Besides Baltimore and Washington, other possible potential suitors are apparently the Yankees, Dodgers, Brewers, Mariners, Braves and more. Supposedly the asking price is 7 years, $175 million; with that many potential suitors, I suspect he'll get close to that.

The dumbest person in the room is all he needs to get what he wants so you are probably right.

No way the brewers get involved. The owner has already said they are going to lower salary, and with the contract increases due to the current roster, they probably don't have more than 20 million to work with. No way they spend all that on one player, with the bullpen needs this team has.

I agree -- I was just stating that's he's worth 25M a year in the short-term. If it's a long-term deal that's obviously a disaster.

The Rangers are only offering him a 3-year deal. It's extremely likely he will get a longer contract than that on the market.

I got 5-1 odds that the Tigers will offer him a ridiculous contract.
He won't last. Too injury prone . Seems like if he has a hangnail or headache he's out for 2 weeks. I hate players like that.

I thought the teal wasn't necessary for that. I don't think the Marlins will be getting anyone with a big contract any time soon.

I was only half-joking. With this trade they can deal for the Miami native and still have a payroll south of $50 million.
