Default Sox to wear '83 uniforms on Sundays?

Mark Giangreco on the 10 pm ABC7 News tonight said that the Sox might wear the '83 home uniforms on Sundays next year. I couldn't find that report anywhere else, though...anyone else hear that?

If Mark Giangreco said it about the White Sox, I'm inclined to believe the opposite.

Didn't they just wear those a few years ago for their throwbacks? Maybe it was in 2008 for the 25th anniversary of the 1983 team. However, since 2013 would mark the 30th anniversary, I can see the connection.

Personally, I think JR just likes the uniforms from that era as they represent his first thumbprint on the team.

Sorry, but I love those uniforms. They look creative, unique and something I'm glad is ours.

They are my favorites too if only because there is a photo of me at about a month old wearing that uniform.

SouthsideSox said there might be 1983 Mascot Races, so if that is the case it might lend some more credence to the White Sox wearing the '83 throwbacks.

There was nothing creative or unique about them. The Sox got on the ugly polyester pullover shirt, beltless pants, gaudy uniforms bandwagon just as the trend was beginning to die out. I liked the team, but hated the uniform even then.

I think that well over half the teams in the league were wearing pullovers by the time the White Sox introduced those uniforms in 1982. The only two teams that I can think of off the top of my head that weren't wearing pullovers were the Phillies and the Yankees. The uniforms were unique because I believe they were the only uniforms ever designed and chosen by the fan base of a team in all of American sports.

2nd worse Sox unis after Veecks of 1976 through 1981.
I don't need to see them again.
Through the 50s and 60s we had one of the best uniforms in MLB, after that it was revolving uniforms until we finally got it right again in 1991.

I had not heard that but was thinking about this as I recently ordered a 2013 calendar. I have no issue with the 1983 uniforms and if the Sox wearing them on Sundays makes fans happy, then it's all good.

Can you believe it has been 30 years since that "Miracle on 35th" Sox team gave us all those thrills and all that heartache? I remember it like it was yesterday and boy am I feeling old this morning! Where have you gone, Britt Burns?

October26 - Twenty-SEVEN years ago, I married my husband on October 26. Since that day, we have been blessed with a wonderful family. Then, on October 26, 2005, when the baseball gods bestowed their good fortunes upon us, we saw the White Sox win the World Series. An incredibly talented team of grinders made every Sox fan's dream come true. My family and I celebrated with reckless abandon. And now, we look forward to that day when our White Sox will once again be World Series Champions!

It's embarrassing that we have to celebrate anniversaries of years that we didn't win the World Series.

Considering how many 1972 jerseys I saw at the park last year, there's definitely a merch angle to the Sunday jersey idea. Wouldn't surprise me if they went with 1983 this year.

Not a fan of that '83 style with the Expos-inspired hat and Astros-inspired jersey, but I like throwbacks in general, so that would be cool.

IIRC, the Yankees and Tigers were the only teams to forsake wearinf pullover shirts.

At the time, I liked the 1983 uniforms primarily because they replaced the pajama uniforms which were the laughing stock of the league. 1983 was also a fun season with the new free agent signings and first division championship so I have good memories of the uniforms.

I remember submitting a couple ideas during the uniform contest. One was a slight alteration to the 1976-1982 uniforms that got rid of the collars, tucked the shirts in, however kept the colors and block SOX caps. The other submission was using the classic SOX script logo that is on the current uniforms, however I had dark navy pinstripes with red trim on the logo to sort of match the dark navy/red look they had in the "White Sox" script uniforms from the late 80s. That was a fun contest.
