RIP Earl.
He had a great reason as to why baseball is the best game in the world... "You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all." True words of wisdom from one of baseball's most colorful personalities. He will be missed.

Rest In Peace, Earl Weaver.
As a Sox fan in the 70s and 80s I can say without reservation that I hated that sonofabitch.

One of the great characters of the game. I still watch some of his tirades on YouTube.
In a lot of ways, Earl Weaver was before his time. Weaver despised the bunt because he knew that man at first, no outs creates a better scoring probability for the offense than man at second, one out. Weaver was a sabermetric manager well before people started talking about sabermetrics.

RIP Earl. You brought a fire and passion to the game few managers since have displayed. May you have every call go your way up there (except when playing the Sox of the past).

Earl waited on the 3 run homer way too much for my taste, but what a great manager.
Plus he poured his vast knowledge into Earl Weaver Baseball, the first serious computer baseball game, which still has the best lineup generation ever. I played in sim leagues with the Amiga version RIP, Earl. |
