Default Red Sox home sellout streak ends at 820 consecutive games

Attendance for last night's game with the Orioles was 30,862, the first time Fenway has failed to sell out since May of 2003.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...-ends/2072633/

With 820 straight sell-outs, it is now the longest such streak in all of professional sports history.

Are they going to retire the number 820?

I have read on more than a few occasions that the Maple Leafs have not had an unsold seat since WW II.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Which_spor...ell_out_streak

Everything else I read today does not mention the Leafs with the longest streak.
A few of the guys here at my Golf Club are are from Toronto and are always bragging about no unsold seats since WW Ii so I don't know who to believe. I think fans of the Montreal Canadiens might take issue with the BoSox streak. I go back to the late 50s following the Hawks and the NHL and check attendance figures daily and if the Maple Leafs and Canadiens did not sell out a game in that time it would be like earth shattering news.

It's fairly well known that the streak has been maintained for years by sales to broker firms and comp tickets.

Time for the Hawks to make a run at it, though they have a very long way to go.

They'll never do it. It would be at least 16 years and Toronto's streak would have to end

Broker tickets are what keeps the Cubs announced attendance high as well. but, let brokers waste their money. I can't stand them anyway.

The article made the distinction of stating it was the longest streak in MAJOR professional sports history. The Dayton Dragons have sold out 914+ games in a row:
