I work in River North, and when the Sox play during the day, I go to different bars/restaurants to watch the game. I almost always have to ask them to put on the game, even at places where there are many, many TVs. They often have nearly every different game/ESPN-style program imaginable going, but no Sox. Most of the time, I'm done eating before they get around to changing the channel on one of these TVs, and sometimes they forget altogether (even after asking more than once). I now have a nice list going of places I won't go for game-day lunches.

If I plan on watching a game that isn't at a "Sox bar" I generally tip heavy on the first drink or two. Take care of them and they'll generally take care of you.

This thread is crazy, I traverse the North Side and I don't think I've ever had a problem with someone putting the Sox on...

Being proud about theft is even crazier.

Theft rules. By the way, I just took your TV.

I'm stunned that you haven't encountered it yet. It's happened to me on more than one occasion. Northwest suburbs too.

Yeah, I don't know. I can't comment much on the burbs, I pretty much try to avoid going west of Cicero or north of Peterson almost at any cost, but I have noticed in my days that while there's definitely a North/South divide between Cubs and Sox fans, there's a very strong city/suburbs divide, as well, in that I've found a lot of North Side city Sox fans and a lot of South suburban Cub fans. So when I duck in the little hole in the wall tavern that maybe has 10 seats, I usually don't get much of a hassle when I ask to put the Sox on. Maybe some of the bigger bars that try and attract the transplants from the burbs are more hostile to the Sox, but the small corner bars that I generally prefer are usually pretty welcoming, especially when they figure out I'm probably going to get blackout drunk in their establishment.

This isn't Sox-related, but it's the same story basically: I was at Murphy's in Champaign during the 2010 NBA/NHL playoffs with a table of about 10 people. The Hawks were playing Vancouver, and the Bulls were also on at the time, and each game was on approximately half of the TVs in the bar. When the 1st intermission for the Hawks came, the manager turned all the TVs to the basketball game. OK, fine, whatever. No big deal. When the 2nd period was about to start, I politely asked to have half the TVs turned back to the hockey game. The manager actually said "oh, hockey's a sport now?" and wouldn't change them back. So in response I took my big group and went to another bar, where we ended up spending the rest of the evening (and a lot of money on beer). Some people just don't know how to run a business.
