He does, the younger Carlos Lee also played baseball professionally in the Sox's minor league system for 4-5 seasons, I believe

Now that guy was a Cub killer. In 79 games at Wrigley in his career, he hit 24 home runs, 61 RBI's and batted .293
I hated to see him go, but they got 2 big pieces for the 2005 World Series run for him. It's odd but after the 2004 season, the Sox lost Magglio and traded Carlos and then won the world series. |

Wow. I remember when I was really young and he was really young (well, in his 20s anyway). Time sure flies. Thanks for the memories, Carlos Lee. May life treat you well from here on out.
You know that you're starting to get old when guys you remember coming up through the system are retiring. :(

I like Carlos, but he was easily the poster boy for the softball era White Sox. He could hit and not really do anything else. How he never ended up a DH anywhere is beyond me.

Yup. I STILL can't believe the Astros signed him to a 6 year, $100 million deal at age 31.

I loved that Ozzie quote about Carlos Lee "sliding into second base like his wife was turning the double play." LOL! Classic Ozzie. That was in 2004. In 2005, Carlos was playing for the Brewers.

IMO, it was a good signing overall. Better than letting the Cubs sign him... |

Obviously, we would all kill to have a bat like Carlos's in today's lineup. Man, we had a lot of good hitters ten years ago.

From 2003-2007, I took up residence in Section 159 at US Cellular Field. Of all the left fielders I saw, Carlos Lee was the most fun to have in front of you.
I was sad to see him go, but the trade to Milwaukee was critical for the World Series championship.

There were a lot of "good hitters" running around baseball ten years ago.

For comparison, his last 3 full years were worse(or basically the same) than Adam Dunn has been thru the first half of this year. Would you be OK with Adam Dunn's current production for the next 3 years if he was making 4 million more than he is right now? A player hitting 24 HRs and hitting .246 shouldn't be making $19 Million. Had it been a 4 year deal, it's probably not that bad. But 6 years was insane for an NL club. |
