DFAing Flowers serves no purpose. He has already shown he can be a good back up at the major league level. Gimenez is nothing and will probably clear waivers and wind up back in Charlotte.

What does Gimenez do better than Flowers? If you think a lot or anything significant, you may want to check the numbers.
Flowers sucks, but Gimenez sucks even more.

Neither can hit worth a lick, but Gimenez is obviously superior behind the plate.

Gimenez has caught 179 innings. He has 5 passed balls and 2 errors. In 552 innings, Flowers has 7 passed balls and 4 errors. Each has thrown out aprroximately the same pct of basestealers. I know the back up QB (in this case the catcher) is many times more popular, but anyone thinking Gimenez is better than Flowers( I agree Flowers sucks) hasn't looked at it very hard.

I sort of feel that way as well. For a guy that was supposed to be very good defensively, he really sucked out there. Obviously his offense didn't #make an impact.

Nor his baserunning. Brent Lillibridge 2.0.

685 career OPS before 2013. More mistake hitter than big threat. Good arm, iffy receiver. @scottiev82: scouting report on #phegley #WhiteSox

38th overall pick in the '09 draft. He's also been dealing with an autoimmune disorder and some baseball related injuries that have kept him out for quite a while. To be honest, a 15 word 'scouting report' ain't worth a lick. He's been hitting really well this year, and you'd be smart to be excited about what he has to offer over Flowers/Gimenez.

It would be nice if he can actually catch a ball on a consistent basis, but then again opening night jitters is a somewhat mitigating circumstance.

I'm well aware of the book on Phegley. I follow the minors more than the majors. The tweet is merely corroboration. Josh should provide better offense than Tyler, but similar or worse defense. He's an interesting prospect but nothing to get too excited about.

???

Our OFs this year have included Wise, Wells, Danks and now Tekotte- if you don't think that is evidence of a lack of talent in the organization- I don't know what to say- 3/4 are off the scrap heap- and Danks just plain sucks.

We also had no OF help last year from the farm system.

Welcome to rebuilding. If Rios is going to be traded for prospects/salary relief, somebody has to play RF for the rest of the year. That somebody is going to be Jordan Danks.

Yes, I know that sucks. But this is the kind of **** that happens when you're 34-49.

Mitchell is no longer a prospect.

Walker is hitting .212 at AA.

Thompson is hitting .253 at AA, .186 over the past 10 games- still might be a prospect- he is showing some decent power- but 82 K's in 82 games is a pretty big red flag.

Hawkins is only a year out from being drafted- but hes hitting .191 with 88 K's in 52 games.

We don't have a single outfielder in our minor league system who projects to be on the major league roster in 2014- so from 2012, 2013, 2014- our farm system won't produce a single OF who could help- which is why we have crap like Danks, Wells, Wise and Tekotte.
