Are our systems that close at the top?
From what I understand, their system has more impact players at the top, but ours is much better than a lot of fans would have you believe.

Farm system rankings have more to do with "hype" than people realize.

Thank you! I remember listening to the Score 1999-2005, when I had time on my hands, there seemed to be lots of talk about how loaded the Cubs farm system was at the time. There was Hee Sop Choi, Bobby Hill, Dave Kelton and a load of pitchers with great K/IP. And whenever discussion of minor league talent came up you could rely on there being a caller, "Paul", who was ready to build up the hype on the Cubs stars of the future. Caller "Paul" always was sure to bring out how much better theCubs prospects were in comparison to theSox too.

It seems to me that then and now there are always people on the ready to say something negative about Sox prospects but in the end the Sox do better than expected.

The Sox farm system was considered one of the best in the late '90s and early '00's. Baseball America ranked their system #1 in 2000.

I thought we were ranked #1 in 2001?

He's been amazing: OPS up over .900, OBP at .420, second in the entire minor leagues in both runs scored and walks. He should jump into our top five prospects by season's end.

Is Semien considered a legit prospect for the MLB or is he more of a career minor-leaguer? I don't recall hearing much buzz about him but his slash line looks pretty darn good. He also appears to have some pop in his bat, particularly for a middle infielder.

How's his glove? Could he be our replacement for Alexei?

Nice little write up on Danish and Lowry.

Danish, Lowry easing into roles after starring in high school

He's a legit prospect, although most would tell you that he's overachieving right now. He swung the bat well in college and took walks, so I'm not surprised with his success. His defense is inconsistent though, and his range is pretty average. He has the arm to play SS, but a lot of scouts think he's going to end up at second base.

If true, I find that very surprising...

Well, Badler, DVS, Gonzo, and Hayes all reporting it. I'd go out on a limb...

Maybe they want him to see pitchers with more control on their breaking balls to see how he handles it. After that incredible July, it doesn't seem like he's being challenged in AA anymore.

I see that making sense. I just figured with Birmingham in the playoffs they'd just keep him there.
