They're probably fast tracking him for a September call up. If he does well, they can move Alexei or Beckham in the offseason.

He has been playing 3B, too...

True, a couple of scouting services have him as a future utility guy. In a recent interview he said that he prefers shortstop.

The utility roll predictions were probably prior to this season though, right? I've found that even all of the so-called updated 2013 mid-season rankings still have the same exact paragraph/profile description of him that I read last January. There is no mention of his huge improvements in OBP and slugging skills.

Yeah, I'm not sure what people think of him right now, but I don't like putting ceilings on these guys until we actually see what they can do at the ML level, with an appropriate shot at holding down a position.

Great point but it is tough to make future decisions based on September performance. That is where your internal people really need to have an eye for talent.

Funny but some Boston media and fans have been really negative on the Peavy trade mainly because they did not want to give up Iglesias. Others have said that even though Iglesias has preformed so well at the ML level, his minor league performance is a sign of where he will eventually level off to. Obviously that is 100 point drop in average.
It will become a real hot topic if Boston and Detroit meet this post season.

Avisail Garcia with some opposite field power.

Good night for Avisail. 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI.

Brandon Jacobs also extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a HR last night.

Erik Johnson goes 6 strong tonight, gives up no earned runs, strikes out six and walks none.

Dude is now 10-2/2.15 with almost 9 K/9 across two high levels. Its going to be a really interesting battle between him and Rienzo for a spot next year.

On that thought, there's a legitimate possibility the Sox enter 2014 with 5 lefties in the rotation. Wow.

No secret the Sox know how to develop pitchers. Now if only they could be half as good at developing hitters.

Rienzo and Johnson are both righties. Who's the fifth lefty?

What happened to Brady Shoemaker? He hasn't played this year.
