Default Report: Flowers to have exploratory shoulder surgery, out 3-6 mos.

Per Scott Merkin, Flowers will have exploratory shoulder surgery and will be out 3-6 months. Makes sense why we see Gonzalez up. With Phegley likely to get a bulk of the innings, this puts Flowers in jeopardy in being behind in the competition for next year.

If we go into next season with Phegley and Flowers calling signals it would only prove how little there is to play for. Sox have to make a move for some talent behind the plate either young to middle FA or a very close to ready minor leaguer. Neither of these guys appears to be a long term solution.

Who really cares? If Flowers plays for the White Sox again, it'd have to be under emergency reasons...

Ugh. This only convinces me further he's never going to contribute anything worthwhile.

This oughta give Konerko a chance to save himself the embarrassment of ending the season with fewer HRs than Flowers.

Sounds like he's been playing with a tear all year. I wonder why they didn't shut him down earlier.

They said he wanted to try and play through it, given the opportunity to replace AJ. I think you can respect the effort, but the results obviously left much to be desired.

They knew Flowers had a problem and yet they let AJ walk. Unbelievable and inexcusable. Not only did the Sox flop without AJ but Flowers never got a fair shot. Wow.

The timeline is key, but it sounds like at the very least the Sox failed to do due diligence on the extent of Flowers' injury before deciding to let AJ go. Major screw-up with major consequences.

If it's exploratory that means they don't have an image showing a tear and are going in just to see what's going on because he's got chronic pain issues but no one knows why.

Are they going to look for his batting average?

Yeah, the difference between Flowers and AJ would definitely be a 30 game swing.

I love when people throw the word "inexcusable" around about the actions of a professional sports team. As if it's a personal affront and the team would come looking for your pardon but "oh no, they won't be getting it."

I can understand letting AJ go, but thinking that Flowers could be a regular starter was always a bad idea. He showed little when he's had the chance that last couple of years. He was pretty bad this year in every aspect of being a catcher.

You're putting more meaning into the term "inexcusable" than is actually there. It simply means "impossible to justify".

Of course, Flowers over AJ isn't really impossible to justify. It saved the team a lot of money and wouldn't have made any difference at all this season (if anything, it would have just hurt the draft position). There, justified.
