BTW, do the Cubs have any decent pitching prospects at any levels of the minors? More to the point, do they have any pitching prospects that are ahead of Erik Johnson or Andre Rienzo? Or, for that matter, Jake Petraica, Daniel Webb or Tyler Danish?
Bruce Levine probably would have mentioned it. He's the leader of the Friends of Theo. I'm not sure anyone else would care. A Double-A series really doesn't merit any mention from the Chicago press.

Saw a link on the Trib site when Daytona won the FSL the other night.

Don't expect to see one of Birmingham wins the Southern League, but it is nice to see the AA squad enjoying a stellar season.

Maybe with some luck -- and not by design given the Sox history of non-development of position players -- they found a good one in Micah Johnson. He's pretty exciting and I hope he continues his progress.

Yeah, it's been fun to follow him this year. Imagine if he keeps hitting and Leury improves his average -- what a keystone combination that would be.

I like Johnson for his speed. I'm old school and think the game should be kept simple to succeed: pitching, speed and defense. You have that and you're always going to be competitive.

Well, to be fair B'Ham did have some older non-prospects on the roster. But our farm system is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

Because the Sox have finally starting doing better in drafting players over the last 2 or 3 years and some of these guys are now making their way up through Birmingham?

The Baron's success is a good sign, but it doesn't change the fact that the Sox farm system was rightfully ranked near the bottom for many years.
