Default Keenyn Walker Signs with Windy City Thunderbolts

Keenyn Walker, Sox #1 draft choice in 2011, signed with the Windy City Thunderbolts of the independent Frontier League yesterday.

The Thunderbolts are based in Crestwood and had two players picked up by Major League teams and assigned to their minor league affiliates last season.

Bad pick by KW. He is often misrepresented as a first round pick even though he was taken #47, which is actually a second round pick. Odds were he would be a fringe major leaguer, but he never made it past AA. Just more evidence of the sad drafting in the 2000s.

March 16, 2005 - Another happy Sox fan joins the party!
July 6, 2012 - 7 years later he's still part of it...

He was in the supplemental round after the 1st round, right? At any rate he was the Sox first pick that year. How did we lose the first round pick that year? According to Baseball Reference.com, the Nationals got our 1st round pick that year but it doesn't say how.

Yeah, another in a long line of bad picks for the Sox over a 10-15 year period.

To add more pain to the discussion... Adam Dunn.

The good news is that Washington drafted RHP-Alex Meyer... who went nowhere though he did log some bad major league innings and is currently in AAA for the Angels.

Yep, supplemental. The Sox lost their first pick for signing.....Adam Dunn! If it's any consolation, the Nationals pick at #23 (Alex Meyer) has done very little and probably won't ever be much more than a late inning reliever.
