I was there. It was really cold and miserable early, but suddenly got really fun!

With better defense, better uniforms- but the ballpark is not as great as '77.

Does that make Delmonico Royle Stillman?

Watched the game (recorded) via MLB-TV (realized you could click on the inning in the box score to see that specific half inning- very happy).

The Sox had a "bad ass" feel about them yesterday- Anderson is starting to show the "it" factor of a star, they show a calm confidence.

Engel looks really good- went down low and the other way for a smooth single to RF- if the kid hits .250, he's a real asset.

Not a cheap HR in Davidson's 3- my God, everything was just hammered.

Overall- the guys looks fit and lean (Abreu and Davidson look leaner than last year), and the hitting strokes looked short and quick across the board.

Gutsy start by Shields to hang in there and give us 6 IP.

Out pitching is very thin- but if they stay healthy- this will be a very fun team to watch.

What is this "hitting" and where does it belong on my White Sox?

Against a good team, he's toast. But hey if he has a great first half that's terrific! The Sox can trade him for something useful. I got it let's trade him back to the Padres for Tatis! How about it?
While you may not be impressed by Shields, he showed to all those young, inexperienced pitchers in the bullpen watching the game how a professional should go about their business. He showed them that if you get hit hard in the first inning, you put that aside and bounce back and keep your team in the game and eat innings. You don't sulk and make matters worse by chucking it in the second inning and moping and putting the rest of the bullpen in a bad situation the rest of the game. He did his job.

I'm not naive to believe that Shields at 36 is going to be anywhere near the pitcher he was at 26, but he figures to be a strong influence on a bunch of young pitchers who need to know how to go about their business and how to handle adversity.

The trade for Shields is history and I'm not going to wish for something that has happened not to have happened. It can't be undone. He's part of the White Sox team and I'll be rooting for him, not against him.

Good to see Anderson happy and having fun. Not sure he will ever be a star, but there's no doubt in my mind that losing his close friend affected his play last season. Here's to hoping he'll enjoy himself and have a productive year.

In the words of pre-season 2011 D- Rose (forget about everything after): “why not? Why can’t I be mvp? Why? Why?”

James Shields threw five scoreless innings. If he can do that most starts I’ll be a happy fan.

I was in the car when the game ended, so I could not post here. If I was at my computer, I would have named this thread "Party like it's 1977"

I want Anderson to be good enough that the Sox can tell Manny Machado, “If you’re signing with us, you’re playing third base.”

I’m not worried about Anderson’s previous lack of walks. If he just makes good contact, his natural power and speed will result in many extra base hits. At that point, pitchers will start throwing him sliders in the dirt, and it will be up to him to lay off. Then the walks will come.

This team is going to score a lot of runs this year, so it will be a question of how good the pitching is from top to bottom that will determine how quick they get to being competitive in the divison.

I have them around .500 this year (78 wins in the contest). The holes they have to fill offensively are not nearly as great as the ones they need in pitching (that hole including experience for the young prospects, like Giolito and Lopez, though I think their quality will be there long-term).

This may turn out to be a very fun year as the team develops and the younger players mature.

Back to the Davidson Show...he was absolutely raking in ST too.

I think it's kind of a WSI 'thing' that a 26-year old can hit 26 HRs over 118 games (projects to about 35 over a full season) and some here can't wait to get rid of him because of his propensity to K and his suspect defense. Kind of the same deal with Avi Garcia too.

It's entirely possible even if not likely that both players continue to improve as they enter their prime. Davidson's power is off-the-charts. There's a place for him on not only this year's team but perhaps next year's as well.

It is not a WSI "thing." He was one of the worst regulars in baseball last year. THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE CAN'T BE BETTER THIS YEAR. It just means that the criticism of him is entirely valid and reaches far outside WSI.
