I don't understand why this is a big deal. To me the concept would be to have the first 2 "series" (~7 games) of the season played in warm weather/dome stadiums, then the 3rd/4th "series" played in the other cities. After that- the normal schedule mix, etc.

I don't see this impacting total home/road games for the month of April for any specific franchise or anything like that.

You're being too rational. This is the same league that actually allowed its All-Star Game to dictate WS home field advantage for 14 years.

You are right -- one week wouldn't have a huge impact. Others in this thread have advocated for two weeks or longer.

They are expected to play this game with temperature at game time around 40 and no rain or snow expected.

It's complicated. I'm calculating how long I think I can last in the cold, how early we'd need to get there to get into one of the bars, what the current forecast is . . .

If the temps are above freezing then it wonít be so bad as long as you wear some layers. Iíll take 40 at this point.

It's not so much about being fair in terms of standings, it's more about revenue and April "gate". Since kids are still in school in April, no team wants April games to take away from the prime summer weekends. So the warm/dome/southern teams would scream bloody murder if they had to take on 2 of their 13 weekend series in the first two weeks of the season.

I don't believe that they're never going to shorten the season so my proposal would be to have all 30 teams start playing real games down in Florida and Arizona the first one or two weeks of the season (6 or 12 games for each team; split equally home/away). To cover the revenue part of it, all teams would revenue share these games/gates/revenue. While it's not perfect, it would solve this weather problem and at least be fair to all teams.

All of that being said, I'm happy it looks like we're going to play baseball today. Crossing my fingers that the precipitation holds off!

A national media Sox mention: The weather guy on Good Morning America said it could be the coldest White Sox Opening Day in their history.

What's the saying? "There's no such thing as bad weather; just bad preparation!"

Well, if we can get Buehrle-like performances from both pitchers we might actually get the game done before the precipitation arrives.

See you all there. Stop by Section 130 and say hi. I'll be wearing a parka and a Sox winter hat from last year.
