That bullpen is shaky, but the last two look good (Jones and Soria). The

As the season progresses, I think Renteria will let the young starters work through those types of jams in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings, especially when they are well under 100 pitches. For Fulmerís first start of the season, I was going to be fine with whatever decision Renteria made in that spot. After Yolmer made the heads-up play to get the out on the plate, it was on Bummer to keep that third Toronto run from scoring, and he failed to get the job done.

Excessive failure in key spots by this bullpen is something we will need to brace ourselves for this season. All Renteria can do is try to find a balance between not burning out young startersí arms and not messing with their heads by letting the bullpen lose too many winnable games. It wonít be easy.

On the Granderson non-catch, big mistake by Castillo going back to third. Only have to tag until ball contacts the fielder's glove, even if they are still juggling it. Of course, it hit the wall, but guys should know the rules.

Nice game.
Nice catch by Leury. I thought he was a pretty good CF last season. Hope he gets good playing time.
Fulmer has some movement on his pitches.

Fulmer was surprisingly effective. Nice to get a win. 3-2 road trip to start the season is fine with me.

Agreed. I think the White Sox are going to perfect what all impending contenders do- the art of the pest. The royals were the biggest pest ever before they went to two World Series consecutively. Thereís something about teams that are on the cusp that makes them dangerous, even though they donít have enough to be contenders. This Sox team has that written all over them.

The early-season power surge has been nice, but even when the power regresses, there are two areas where this yearís team looks substantially improved over past teams: baserunning (tonightís hiccup on the Moncada hit notwithstanding) and defense. Getting from 1st to 3rd more often on singles, scoring from 2nd more often on singles, having a catcher who can shut down an opponentís running game, turning more double plays, and taking away hits both in the infield and outfield will make this team a pain in the ass to play against.

Win or lose, this bullpen is going to cause a LOT of tension. That said, it appears homers will be a common theme, as well. Are the baseballs juiced? Regardless, I'm only happy we have at least one reliable offensive weapon as a team.

Iíve always thought the batter had to be called out before the runner left his base. In other words, the play had to be over before the runner could attempt to move up.

Yes. I forgot about this rule, but I believe the intent is to keep a skilled fielder from purposefully juggling the ball in the air and running back towards the infield or tricking the runners into leaving early.
We used to do that in wiffleball.

I would have left Jones in to start (and hopefully complete) the 9th -- he had only thrown 10 pitches. But that's why I'm not managing in the majors (or at any level)!

Yes but 3 of the 4 hitters hit absolute lasers off of Jones.
