I'm sure the Sox are receiving offers for Bummer as well. Probably better offers than they are fielding for Colome.

Right, which is a product of the last handful of years of how baseball has changed, and which the causal fan doesn't grasp (through no fault of their own).

Iím sure they are. I just donít want to give up a guy with that much team control remaining.

McCann is exactly the veteran we should look to retain. Productive, and at a position where he can teach a young backup and help our young pitchers.

I know he's a reliever, but trading young cost controlled players is probably not in the best interest of our current rebuild.

Completely agree. I'm not advocating trading Bummer (words I never thought I would type a year ago). I made the point to illustrate that the market for Colome likely isn't all that great.

It's risky, but one they need to take if the return is there. Half of this 25 is filled with Organizational Minor leaguers, there are very few real prospects ready to join the 25. This rebuild is very far away and not on schedule (well not on any reasonable schedule anyway).
They can't half-ass another July trade period.

I admittedly laughed when people suggested this was the year. I'm still firm that 2021 is the first year we're close to .500, and our "window" so to speak is 2022 and 2023 before not wanting to dish out major league contracts forces us to trade from the core. If they can get a few pieces for Bummer that fit that window, that makes sense. But Bummer himself would be here in that window, so they'd better be good pieces.

Your timeline is, unfortunately, not unexpected and probably accurate.
It took Epstein, Luhnow, Stearns, and numerous others far less than 5 years. But at this point, I'd take 5 years and run.

Abreu to Red Sox rumors.

IMO, trade him and try to get him back, if you want, in the offseason, not that his skillset isn't fairly common on the market these days.

The real question is what happens after the window. Do we become a top payroll team, retaining and adding to the core? Do we become the A's and Royals, selling it all off and starting over? Or are we the Pirates, signing mid tier free agents as the core leaves/gets traded. We were the Pirates before this rebuild...

That’s not a rumor; that’s Phil Rogers staring the obvious that the Red Sox need a bat and Abreu would be a good addition for them.
