Well today's the day. Hard to say who we'll get with so much variability in front of us at #8. But I'm guessing the Sox will pick either P-Jon Harris, Missouri State or P-Walker Buehler, Vanderbilt. I think Fulmer, Jay and the others will be gone by the time we pick. Tempting to hope they go with Steve Stone's favorite, C-Tyler Stephenson from Georgia, but I doubt that will happen. Besides, they really need to go with best baseball player available and not a positional need approach. The baseball draft is too much of a crap shoot as it is.

I hope Happ slips to them...best hitter in the draft.

Pass on Fulmer - short, with terrible delivery. The Sox have several good pitching prospects. Rushing up someone into the September bullpen isn't exactly a priority.

I don't know why the Sox seem to be insistent on picking a pitcher. and yes, Buehler would be a bad reach.

I really hope they avoid Walker Buehler. Nothing about that guy is exciting. He SCREAMS 4th or 5th SP.... and you don't really want that kind of ceiling when picking 8.

Also, it may not be a bad idea to draft Stephson if he falls, sign him on the cheap and use the money saved to go over slot in round 4 due to the missed picks.

I really want Stephenson. He's a stud behind the plate and I really like his quick stroke through the zone.

I will say this

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, has us linked to college pitchers. But if we had to take a position player, a sleeper prospect, watch out for Kevin Newman, SS from AZ.

The kid has no power, but he hits the gaps hard. He has a great contact tool potential, good bat control, and I think he is going to stick at SS. He has plus speed, but he isn't a burner. He is like a perfect 2 hitter of the future.

Sounds like a plan.
Why are the Sox so singularly focused on pitchers?

Dansby Swanson is the first pick. Not much of a surprise.

I say draft Daz Cameron, he'll ask for way too much, you don't sign him, let him to go to college baseball and we pick up the #9 pick next year when the draft class will be better!

If Fulmer is 25-50% the difference maker our last 1st rounder from Lakeland, FL was, he'll be a good pick for us.

Fulmer is a good pick. It's hard to take chances when you don't pick again until #112. I thought we might go for Harris -- which seemed like more of our kind of pick -- which I would have been okay with also.
