He should be hitting 6th or 7th regardless of the pitcher’s handedness.

The Tilson-Cordell combo at #8 and #9 is giving off some good vibes right now, and the #6-7 spot would get Alonso as far away from the run producers as possible without messing with that.

I felt great about this lineup. There were only 7 hits but strung together enough for 4 runs in 4 innings (with one throwaway inning). I would feel better with Eloy directly in for one of the guys in the 6 or 7 slot to get him in many key situations but that wouldn’t be a simple 1 for 1 substitution.

Do we have any advanced metrics on how Sox hitters have done with handedness so far? Without any evidence, I would rather bunch our run producers rather than bat a handedness sensitive lineup.

And now he's DHing. For what purpose, when younger guys could use the ABs. This will also toll 4 more ABs onto the option ticker...

There's 300+ PA to go before the option kicks in. Why are you freaking out about it?

Alonso down to the 6 spot today!

......in favor of the .179 Castillo, the only regular with a lower BA than Alonso.

Can somebody help me rationalize opting for Alonso to DH instead of McCann?

Most teams don't use their backup C as the DH. I don't necessarily agree with that thought process, but it is the predominant thinking in baseball.

Might also be they would rather Castillo and Yonder flail around against Verlander than McCann who's already been in a bit of a slump the last few days.

Sox need to make sure his 2020 team option doesn't vest.

I believe it vests with either 550 or more plate appearances this year or 1,100 combined over 2018 & 2019.
