Yeah, most of the mock drafts I've seen have the Sox taking Vaughn. I know mock drafts are just mock drafts, but it's certainly a pretty decent possibility.

FWIW - Doing some digging it sounds like the Royals are more than likely going to take Witt, Jr. At one point, they were supposedly leaning towards Vaughn. A number of publications think the Sox are almost definitely leaning Vaughn since he should have a shorter path to the pros and could back-fill 1st base when Abreu is gone. Burger was supposed to be that guy but I don't think they know what they have in him so Vaughn does make sense. Still, his offensive numbers while strong are down from '18 and his strikeouts are up.

After listening to the first part of the most recent Sox Machine podcast, I'm rethinking my earlier position on what to do with Eloy defensively, at least in the short term. So right now, my tentative idea is:

1. Sign Abreu to a 2-year extension (for 2020 and 2021);

2. When Eloy is about ready to return, trade Alonso for whatever you can get;

3. When Eloy returns, have him DH for the rest of the season so he can focus on hitting in game situations;

4. Have Eloy practice all aspects of fielding in LF every day, preferably coached/mentored by Darrin Jackson (pay DJ extra to take on this responsibility). It could even be incorporated into a cardio/agility drill under the direct supervision of Allen Thomas or Ibrahim Rivera;

5. Use the LF reps to give playing time and ABs to the likes of Cordell, Palka, Tilson, and Delmonico, to see what value they might have, either to the Sox or to another club.

6. Assuming the extra fielding coaching actually improves Eloy as a fielder, you can have him play as many innings as possible in LF in 2020 Spring Training, with a mind toward being the everyday LF for the regular season.

But though FRATER laughed openly, he wept secretly; and really he neither laughed nor wept. Nor did he mean what he said.

Eloy has a brace on his ankle but is walking well and was taking BP today. Sounds like it won't be an extended stay on the IL.

In the mean time he could be face to face instruction, watching film, working on endurance, etc...

Then when he gets off the DL he can get the real time work in he seemed to missed out on down on the farm and during spring training.
