If Steele Walker is traded for Nomar Mazara, then I want everyone in major league scouting escorted out of the building by security.

Just looked a little deeper...$12-15M AAV likely won’t be enough for MadBum, but my proposition still stands at more like $18-22M AAV, 3years for him.

Didn’t the Sox just promote Nick Hostetler to this position, too?

Bad first offseason for him if this goes down.

I would call Walker the limits of an acceptable trade for Mazara, but I think you’re overvaluing an outfielder who hasn’t cleared A Ball when the Sox have Robert.

I will admit I’m not very educated on Walker’s defensive value, but I can’t recall hearing that it is significant in either direction. And I know Roberts’ is high.

I wouldn’t even talk to the Rangers anymore after they obviously leaked this to get bidding up. **** that.

Also, all of the names listed as possible names going back are a giant “no” for me. He’s basically as league average as it gets,

There is not another team in the majors, rebuilding or otherwise, who would willingly go into next season with a Nomar Mazara-Leury Garcia platoon in RF for nearly $12.

The only way that should ever even cross a GM’s mind is if the players go on strike, and that is the plan for RF on a team of replacement players crossing the picket line.

It’s not about how much it costs. It’s about how much the team has left to spend to fill remaining holes after it spends that money address a current hole in a way that at least makes the position league average.

If the Sox aren’t willing to overpay a little at positions of need for the short term (1-3 years) and aren’t willing to pay big at positions of need for the long term (5-8 years on premium free agents or event slightly below premium free agents, like Machado, Harper, Cole, Strasburg, Wheeler), then this rebuild will absolutely fail. Without question.

To their credit, they’ve proven willing to spend on the right slightly below premium free agent (Grandal). But it has to be part of larger plan. I can accept overpaying if they’re willing to overpay at a few areas of need in order to be competitive, especially when they’re not saddled with bad commitments more than 2-3 years into the future.

I am aware that my argument here could be applied to the likes of LaRoche and Dunn. The Sox obviously have to be capable of competently evaluating the future worth of the players they sign. If they’re not capable of doing so, all this doesn’t much matter. But I’m more optimistic about the FO in this regard than I was at the LaRoche signing. The Grandal signing was pure shrewdness. Hopefully it works out as it looks like it should at this point, but IMO, there is nothing not to like about that signing from a fan’s perspective in December 2019.

The only way this would make sense is if they decided to save their money and go all in on Betts next year.

Don’t know if this trade happens or not but I had no idea that Steel Walker was the next Mike Trout! If the Sox get Mazara for Walker or Vaughn I say do it because he’s a huge improvement! Than go get Mad Bum and maybe Ryu or Price or a trade for Happ and we’re in business.

For Walker, maybe. For Vaughn, NO.

My White Sox fan doppelgänger! Nice to meet you, RCWHITESOX!

Edit: sorry, Vaughn? Nope, not given what we know about him thus far. Too much upside for two years of a slightly above average RF against only starting RHP.

Trading Vaughn for Mazara and then trading for JA Happ would be the opposite of being in business.

Nomar Mazara is the next Yonder Alonso. We’re competing against ourselves for the services of this particular bad player. No one else—no one else—is actively pursuing a trade involving Nomar Mazara, let alone for the #6 prospect in their system. People may have called about Mazara’s availability, figuring that maybe he could be had for chump change.

It looks like Rick Hahn heard the word “chump,” Jerry Reinsdorf heard the word “change,” and Nomar Mazara + cash will become White Sox property in exchange for Steele Walker + an international bonus amount equal to, if not greater than, the cash being sent with Mazara.
